LIVE UNITED to change What Matters.

This year United Way is excited to announce its new campaign. LIVE UNITED. Underneath everything we are, underneath everything we do, we are all people. Connected, interdependent, united. And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all.

That's what it means to LIVE UNITED.

Harvey County United Way is mobilizing communities to create lasting changes in community conditions that improve lives. Together with community citizens, government, businesses, faith groups, and not-for-profits, we strive to create partnerships to foster change and make a difference in Harvey County.

Why invest in Harvey's early learning
  • Approximately 80% of a child’s brain develops in the first five years of life.
  • Kindergarten teachers estimate that 1 in 3 kids enter kindergarten unprepared for school. When children start school behind, they usually stay behind.
  • 26.07% of 5th graders scored basic or unsatisfactory on reading proficiency tests over the last 5 years in Harvey County.

Head Start, Early Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten programs fight this, but. . .

  • Harvey county has no Early Head Start.
  • Head Start’s had a steady decline of slots. In 2005, 76.9 slots per 100 kids were offered – in 2006, 64.8 slots per 100 kids.
